For many, the new year signals a time of reflection and an opportunity to reset and refresh your mindset. If you’ve been looking for a meaningful way to get involved in your community, consider being a Hunger Hero and volunteering at Bethlehem House of Bread.

Bethlehem House of Bread (BHOB) is a free food pantry in Tigard with a mission to feed those who are hungry in body and spirit at a table where all are welcome. In just two short years, BHOB has gone from providing food to 200 families per month to now serving over 500 families every month.

As a regular volunteer at BHOB, I see firsthand the difference the services make for our neighbors, and I’m proud to be a part of the efforts to fight hunger locally. There is an increasing need for volunteers at BHOB–please join me and your community in making sure fewer of our neighbors go to bed hungry.

Be A Hunger Hero

We’re planning our programming and services for 2020 and need your help to fulfill our mission. Join us on Saturday, Feb. 1 from 12 – 1:30 p.m. for a special volunteer orientation to learn more about BHOB and how you can be a Hunger Hero.

There are many ways to get involved and most opportunities are only a few hours in length and don’t require a regular commitment. Individuals, families, groups, and businesses are all encouraged to volunteer – some options include:

  • Pantry support (shopping, stocking)
  • Fundraising (grant writing, events)
  • Community garden
  • Grounds, building maintenance
  • Clerical, website, or marketing support
  • Teaching a class
  • Special projects
