Is your new year’s resolution to start a business of your own? In 2020, Tigard is launching a series of workshops to help residents realize their dreams.

The city is partnering with SCORE Portland, a nonprofit business mentoring organization, to offer a series of three small business workshops at the Tigard Library in March 2020. These workshops will focus on topics all small business owners need to master in order to be successful – writing a business plan, financing, legal issues, recordkeeping and business marketing. Together, these workshops will provide entrepreneurs and small business owners with a foundation of knowledge to help start or sustain their business.

“We’re excited to help people pursue their dream of running a business,” says Dylan Dekay-Bemis, City of Tigard Economic Development Coordinator. “There are a lot of great organizations in the region that offer business support, but most of them aren’t easy to get to from Tigard. By bringing these great service providers here, we’re lowering a barrier to entry and making it easier for people to get the business help they need.”

Tigard will also be unveiling Los Empresarios de Tigard, a new program that aims to strengthen Tigard’s small business community by connecting Latinx entrepreneurs to the services and support they need to launch and grow successful businesses. The Los Empresarios de Tigard program will launch with a series of free workshops in January, April, July and Oct. 2020.

The first workshop, on Jan. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tigard Library, will feature a panel of local organizations that provide business support services and resources.
