On June 25, the Tigard City Council voted to appoint Shriya Myneni as the next Youth City Councilor for a 1-year term beginning July 1, 2024.

Ms. Myneni is a lifelong resident of Tigard, who has been actively volunteering in a local nursing home, where she has formed close relationships with the residents and been fascinated by their life stories. Her sense of civic duty began largely during quarantine, and after observing many injustices, Shriya was compelled to get active in local government.

She has served as the Vice President of the Tigard Youth Advisory Council (TYAC) where the group focused their efforts on addressing the houselessness crisis. This past March, she attended the National League of Cities Congressional City Conference in Washington, D.C. representing Tigard.

Shriya is looking forward to gaining a deeper understanding of how local governments operate and is excited to be a part of advocating for minorities. In addition to strengthening connections and input from Tigard youth, Ms. Myneni is also passionate about seeing the city continue its focus on de-escalation training for emergency responders and training on assisting people who are disabled or have a mental health condition.

The mayor received three applications from Tigard youth for the position. Ms. Myneni was selected following an interview conducted on June 14, 2024, with Mayor Lueb and Council President Hu.
