As winter sports kick into gear in early December, plenty of Tigard athletes brought home honors for their outstanding play throughout the fall season.
Here’s a look at some of the standouts for the fall sports teams at Tigard:
Football
The Tigers season ended on the road in the quarterfinals of the secondary bracket of the state playoffs with a 15-8 loss to North Medford.
It was an up-and-down year for Tigard, with a mix of youth and experience throughout the roster in Head Coach Todd Crist’s first year leading the program. The Tigers struggled to keep up in the gauntlet that is the Three Rivers League, the state’s toughest league.
But, with a playoff win and some younger players already getting solid experience, Tigard can look to build off this year heading forward.
A number of Tigers were honored for their play, including the senior backfield of Owen Wright and Miles Ott, who were both named to the All-Three Rivers League First Team.
Senior defensive lineman Jaiden Manlove was named to the league’s second-team defense, along with senior linebacker Ivan Morales and senior cornerback Colt Ness.
Ness earned double honors, as he was named an honorable mention at wide receiver. Other honorable mentions on offense for the Tigers were junior tacklers Ruedi Graf and Braeden Krizan. Senior Ollie Jones earned one of his three honorable mentions as a kick returner.
The other honorable mentions for Jones came on the defensive side of the ball, where he was honored for his play at safety and as a punt returner. Wright and Ott also picked up their second honorees of the season when they were named honorable mentions to the all-league team. Wright was shouted out for his play at safety, while Ott was named an honorable mention as an inside linebacker.
Senior Jack McDonald was named an honorable mention as a defensive lineman, and junior Jaeshaun Brandon earned honorable mention status for his play as an outside linebacker.
Girls Soccer
The Tigard girls soccer team finished the year ranked in the top 10, coming in at No. 6 after a first-round playoff loss to West Salem.
Senior defender Kiera Grant was voted Three Rivers League Player of the Year to go along with her All-League First Team selection. Grant also recently committed to play collegiately at University of Montana.
Senior forward Claire Masters and senior midfielder Katia Pender were also named to the Three Rivers League First Team. Pender will continue her soccer career at University of Oregon in the fall.
Defender Ella Naser earned Three Rivers League Second Team honors for her play in her sophomore season. Senior Kylee Sakiguchi was also named to the all-league second team for her work in goal this past season.
A number of Tigers were also named honorable mentions for the all-league teams. They were: freshman Mia Newton at forward, sophomore Sam Mao at midfield, junior Oliva Jirles at midfield, and senior Layne Montgomery as a defender.
Head Coach Scott Eggleston was named Co-Coach of the Year in the league, as well.
Boys Soccer
The Tigard boys soccer team finished the year 5-6-1, and the future looks bright for the Tigers. They placed six players on the various all-league teams; only one was a senior.
Tigard’s lone player on the Three Rivers League First Team was sophomore forward Ulises Trujillo.
The Tigers also had two honorees on the all-league second team, both of whom are also sophomores. Those players are midfielder Walter Mendenhall and defender Gavin Goodrich.
Junior forward James Cure, freshman defender Hunter DeSanno, and senior defender Abraham Serrano were all named honorable mentions for the all-league team.
Volleyball
The Tigard volleyball team also placed six players on the all-league teams following the season. The Tigers finished 11-12 on the season.
