A Night of Light and Community at Universal Plaza
The Tigard community is coming together to celebrate the holiday of Chanukah with the Tigard Chanukah Festival. This is the sixth year that the community will gather for a public menorah lighting, a much-loved tradition that brings people of all backgrounds together for a beautiful and fun-filled celebration.
The event will take place on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at 5 p.m. at Universal Plaza in downtown Tigard. This year’s highlight will be the lighting of a stunning ice menorah, hand-carved live at the event.
Hosted by the Tigard Chabad Jewish Center and co-sponsored by the City of Tigard, this free community event will offer something for everyone. Attendees can enjoy traditional Chanukah treats like latkes and gelt, shop at the Chanukah shop, sing along with holiday music, and participate in kids’ crafts. The evening promises a warm and joyful atmosphere for all ages.
“This is a true celebration of community,” said Rabbi Menachem Orenstein, the event organizer. “The menorah is a reminder of the importance of light and hope, and that goodness will always win.”
Universal Plaza’s welcoming atmosphere provides the perfect setting for the festival, which is part of a worldwide tradition of public menorah lightings, with nearly 15,000 similar events taking place across the globe.
