The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is opening its doors to the public for its annual Diwali celebration on Saturday, Nov. 14, inviting the broader community to experience the traditions and culture of the Festival of Lights.

The free event, which runs from noon to 6:30 p.m. at 11365 SW Tigard St., will feature vibrant rangoli displays, traditional decorations, and authentic vegetarian cuisine.
“As part of the Tigard community, we’re always excited to open our doors and welcome our neighbors to experience Diwali,” said Avi Patel, a volunteer with the BAPS communications team. “It’s a special occasion for families to gather, celebrate their traditions, and share a part of their culture with the community we call home.”
A central feature of this year’s festival is “Light Beyond Lamps: Journey Through Hindu Sanskruti.” The interactive cultural exhibition is designed to explore Hindu beliefs and values, illustrating how principles like gratitude, compassion, respect, and service apply to everyday life.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to view the Annakut, an elaborate offering of vegetarian dishes prepared by local families as a communal expression of gratitude.
The festival is entirely community-driven, relying on a diverse group of local residents to organize and execute the celebration.
“All of the preparation is done by local volunteers, including students, working professionals, and families who dedicate their time to making the event possible,” Patel said. “It’s wonderful to see so many people from different generations come together to share something meaningful with their neighbors.”
