Why are you running for city councilor, and what do you bring to the table that your opponents do not?
I am running because we must have new people for council that will give control back to the citizens. I will help do that. We also have several highly qualified candidates, and that is why I fully support and endorse for City Council:
- Steve Gearhart
- Jessica Braverman
- Vince Arditi, and
- Rachel Kazmeierski
What is your #1 priority, and what are you proposing we do about it?
We need to give control back to the citizens. With their scheme to double the size of King City, the City Manager and Council decided we needed a new motto: “A community for all ages.” Actually, it should be called, “A community retirees will no longer be able to afford.” Did you notice the City Manager and Councilors already added a 1.5% tax to your PGE bill and a 2% tax to your Northwest Natural Gas bills? Did you get to vote on that? No. And that is just the beginning. Did you ever hear of a city that grew and lowered taxes? No. How is that growth working for Portland taxes? Please do NOT vote Gretchen Buehner back to council. We must have new people for council that will give control back to the citizens.
King City used to have the lowest taxes, but all the growth the City Manager and Council have planned will need more services and maintenance. That growth will lead to higher taxes. Did you get to vote on the growth plan? No, the City Manager and Council went to court to stop a citizen initiative to let us vote. King City recently finished an expensive remodel of City Hall. But that isn’t good enough for the City Manager and Council. They want a brand new town center, and they plan to build a new King City Hall and also move our King City Police several miles away near Al’s Garden Center. Did you get to vote on that? No. Please do NOT vote Gretchen Buehner back to council. We must have new people for council that will give control back to the citizens.
The citizens recently recalled City Councilors for their votes to approve the Kingston Terrace Master Plan and the controversial Transportation System Plan. We finally got to vote on something to show the City Manager and City Council who should be in control. The City Manager and Council should never have changed Fischer Road from a neighborhood street to a collector to serve regional traffic with an additional 8,000 to 10,000 cars per day. Have you seen the line of cars backed up on 99W trying to turn left onto Fischer Road now? Can you imagine an additional 8,000 to 10,000 vehicles per day? The City Manager and Council should never have planned to extend Fischer Road through the Bankston Family Nature Preserve! You would never have voted to do that! Please do NOT vote Gretchen Buehner back to council. We must have new people for council that will give control back to the citizens.
