As the school year comes to a close, so does the spring sports season.

While some spring teams didn’t have the most success this season, plenty of Tigard athletes excelled across various sports.

Here’s a look at some of the standouts from the spring:

Tigard boys bring home multiple state titles

For the second straight year, junior Paul Hretcanu won the 800-meter at the Oregon State Track and Field Championship meet at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.

The state title came a week after Hretcanu also won the Three Rivers League title in the same event. The junior also captured the league title in the 1500-meter at that same event.

The Tigard boys brought another state title back from Eugene, and that came in the 200-meter, where Marcus Burton closed out an impressive senior season with a win.

Burton was one of the premier sprinters in the state this year, winning the 100-meter in five different events, and setting and then breaking his own school record multiple times in the event this season.

He finished the 100-meter in third, but with a personal best time of 10.47 seconds. The top four finishers in the event all set personal bests.

Both runners were also a part of Tigard’s other best showing at the state meet, which was a fourth-place finish in the 4×400 relay race. The team was made up of Kellen Hughes, Hretcanu, Jagger Wolf, and Burton.

Softball team wins thrilling first-round playoff game

The Tigard softball team had a young team this season and struggled through part of the season, especially once the schedule got into the tough Three Rivers League play.

However, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs and a first-round matchup on the road at Sunset. The No. 24-ranked Tigers didn’t shy away from facing the higher-seeded opponent.

Starting pitcher Brooklyn Robinson went the distance, pitching a complete game and giving up no earned runs. With the game tied at two in the seventh, the sophomore blasted a home run to right field to put Tigard ahead for the win.

Junior Regan Jeub also drove in a run in the win.

Tigard’s season ended in the second round with a 2-0 loss to North Medford.

Robinson was named to the All-Three Rivers League Second Team as a pitcher. Freshman Josie Feist was named to the All-Three Rivers League Second Team as an outfielder.

Senior Kiarra Belli was named an honorable mention for the all-league team, while fellow senior Kenna Clark was also named to the all-league team as a catcher.

Boys lacrosse comes from behind to win first playoff game

The boys lacrosse team trailed Westview, 4-3, in the opening round of their Cascade Cup playoff game.

The Tigers used a strong third period to pull ahead and maintained their lead in a frenzied fourth period.

A few minutes into the third, Reece Taddeo intercepted a pass around midfield and darted downfield for the game-tying goal. Westview scored a minute or so later to regain the lead, but Tigard answered back with a goal by Logan Patrick and then two straight goals by Callan Hiser to go up 7-5 after three.

In the fourth, Westview would cut the deficit to one goal on multiple occasions, but could never fully catch up to the Tigers.

Hiser and Carson McGuire both netted four goals apiece in the win. Taddeo scored twice in the win, while the Tigers also received goals from Patrick, Rocco Steele, and Brady Blanchard.

Tigard’s season would end in the second round in a loss to Marist.

Hiser and McGuire were both named to the All-Northwest Conference First Team, along with Turner Beix. Hiser and Beix were both honorable mentions for the All-State Team, as well.

Other notable performances

Tigard sophomore Camden Board won the Three Rivers League Tennis title in the boys single division, earning him a spot in the Oregon Boys State Championship tournament.

Board earned a first-round bye thanks to his league title and went on to win his first match of the tournament.

In the quarterfinals, Board lost to Alexander Totoian of Roseburg in straight sets, who went on to win the state championship. Totoian didn’t drop a set the entire state championship tournament.

Over on the golf course, the Tigard boys golf team qualified for the state championship meet, as well. The team was made up of Jake Barney, Luke Barney, Quinton Bailey, Tucker Fox, and Hunter Desanno.

Luke Barney was named to the All-Three Rivers League First Team and to the All-State Third Team. Jake Barney was named to the All-Three Rivers League Second team, and Bailey was an honorable mention for the all-league team.

For the girls lacrosse team, senior Addison Ley was named to the Metro All-Conference Second Team
