Concerts at Calvin is pleased to present a series of Christmas concerts for the Advent season for three Sundays in December. Join us at Calvin Presbyterian Church (10445 SW Canterbury Lane, Tigard, OR 97224) for these three beautiful concerts. There is no admission charge. A free-will offering will be taken and light refreshments will be served.

Westside Christian High School’s Music Department will begin the series by performing on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. They will present “A Christmas Festival”, a concert of assorted favorites and other lesser-known Christmas literature, some very seasoned arrangements and some contemporary settings. Their music will get you into the holiday spirit as you begin your Christmas traditions. You’ll hear from their Concert Choir and Concert Band, both current 2019 state champion ensembles, their beginning choir, their award-winning, auditioned vocal ensemble, Soli Deo Gloria, and a very good barbershop quartet called Adult Supervision.

PDX Brass along with organist Darlene Cusick will be performing on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. PDX Brass is a premier brass quintet based in Beaverton, Oregon comprised of members from many backgrounds. They have a trumpet maker, several highly established music educators, and musicians that have performed with the Oregon Symphony and other professional orchestras in the area. PDX Brass likes to present varied programs that give a little something to everyone: Classical, Jazz, Modern, and big orchestral pieces that normally aren’t performed by only five brass players. They always love putting on as big a show as they can! On this concert, we will be joined by the incredible Darlene Cusick on organ for some excerpts from the Nutcracker Suite on the organ.

For the season finale, Calvin’s own Chancel Choir will perform at their Celtic Christmas Concert on Sunday, Dec. 22 at 3 p.m. As the dreary winter winds blow cold outside, come rest by the fire with friends and family, and experience the joy of a Celtic celebration of the Yuletide. Calvin Presbyterian Church invites you to join their Chancel Choir and guest traditional Celtic performers in a joyous marking of the wonders of the Christmas season. Join with us as we raise the rafters with songs both old and new, and anthems inspired by the Highlands. Come and hear the sounds of the season as we celebrate our Celtic heritage. To continue the festivities, the choir will provide warm cider and traditional Celtic treats after the concert.

And to kick off a new year, join us for Lutheran Choral Association’s Epiphany Concert on Sunday, Jan. 5 at 3 p.m. The 12 days of Christmas begin, not end, on December 25th. This large ecumenical choir has sung continually since 1938. There will be a variety of songs from traditional carols such as Joy to the World, music of contemporary composers John Rutter and Joseph Martin, some less well-known carols, and audience sing-alongs. Sue Thompson Armentrout directs the choir, accompanied by Karl Jurisons.

You won’t want to miss this beautiful series of concerts. We’ll see you there!
