With the school year coming to an end, that also means the end of the spring sports season.

Plenty of athletes across various sports finished the year strong for Tigard. Here’s a look at some of the standouts from the spring:

Track and Field

Both the boys and girls track teams had strong showings at the OSAA State Track & Field Championships held at Hayward Field in Eugene at University of Oregon. The girls finished third as a team and the boys finished fourth overall in the state.

Each team also had one state title winner, with junior Marissa Johnson winning the state title for both discus and shot put for the girls team, and sophomore Paul Hretcanu bringing home the state title in the 800 meter for the boys team.

For Johnson, this was her third straight shot put state title and her second consecutive discus state title.

They weren’t the only Tigard standouts at the state meet. On the girls side, senior Alexa Anderson finished second in the pole vault and third in the high jump.

Senior Daniel Rotaru finished third in the 100 meter, and the boys scored a second-place finish in the 4×400 relay, which was made up of Brayden Nee, Micah Gerhard, Hretcanu and Marcus Burton. Senior Hudson Boyd finished fourth in the triple jump.

Prior to the state meet, many of those same Tigers won Three Rivers League titles at the league meet in Oregon City, where the Tigard girls team finished atop the team rankings on the girls side the boys finished third as a team.

Hretcanu won the league title in the boys 800 meters, and Johnson won the league titles in both girls shot put and discus. Anderson won the girls high jump title, and Boyd won the league titles in both boys long jump and triple jump.

Senior Camille Yutzie won the league title in girls long jump.

Softball

The Tigard softball team opened its playoff run with a bit of revenge. The Tiger’s first-round opponent was Sheldon, the two-time defending state champ who knocked Tigard out of the playoffs in the state semifinals a year ago.

Things went differently for Tigard this time, as the Tigers pulled out a 5-0 win at home. Senior Avery Rust pitched a complete game and gave up just one hit, which came with one out in the seventh inning. She also struck out 11 and helped herself out on offense with an RBI single.

Junior Taylor Sirois got the scoring going with a hit that went for two runs, and she later added in a triple. Sophomore Regan Jeub belted a homer to right-center field in the bottom of the fifth.

Unfortunately for Tigard, the playoff run added in the second round with a 1-0 loss at Sherwood. The game was scoreless until the 10 inning when Sherwood plated the only run of the day. Rust gave up three hits over 10 innings and struck out 16.

Plenty of Tigers took home some league honors, with Rust earning All Three Rivers League First Team at pitcher and junior Kenna Clark being named to the league First Team at catcher. Sirois and freshman Brooklyn Robinson were both named to the All-League Second Team infield, and senior Claire Masters was named to the Second Team as a pitcher.

Junior Kiarra Belli and senior Adrieanna Perez were both honorable mentions to the all-league teams.

Baseball

The Tigard baseball team ended its regular season home schedule in grand fashion, scoring a 7-4 win against West Linn, the three-time reigning state champ.

Tigard couldn’t use that big win to catapult to a deep playoff run, unfortunately, dropping its first-round playoff matchup, 4-0, at Roseburg.

Alex Pearson, who is heading to play baseball at University of Washington in the fall, was named All Three Rivers League First Team as both a pitcher and a first baseman. Joining him on the All-League First Team was senior Landon DuChene, who was named to the team as an infielder.

Three Tigers were named to the Three Rivers League Second Team: junior Ryan Frye as a relief pitcher, senior Conner Reilly as an infielder, and senior Ollie Jones as an outfielder.

Junior Cam McCormack and senior Dominic Taylor were both named honorable mentions for the all-league teams.

Lacrosse

Both the Tigard boys and girls lacrosse teams finished the year with some positives in terms of all-league honors.

The Tigard boys team finished the season with a first-round exit in the Cascade Cup playoffs, but placed three players on the Northwest Conference All-Conference First Team: senior Mason Troxell as an attacker, senior Cole Freeborn as a short stick defensive midfield, and senior Alex Berg on defense.

Tigard placed a few younger players on the All-Conference Second Team, with sophomore Turner Beix earning all-conference honors at faceoff, Riley Weakland at long stick midfield, and junior Mitchell Bennett on defense.

Sophomore Carson McGuire, senior Owen Fleming, senior Trevor Engen, and senior Aidan Fowler were all named honorable mentions to the all-conference teams.

The girls team placed two on the Metro Conference All-Conference Second Team. Junior Addie Ley earned second-team honors at midfield, and senior Payten Roth was named to the second-team defense.

Senior Malia Fehr was named an honorable mention for the all-conference teams.

Tennis

The boys tennis team received a strong showing in the Three Rivers League tournament from freshman Camden Board, who reached the championship ship and ultimately finished second. He then reached the third round of the state championship tournament in singles competition.

For the boys team, Head Coach Kevin Reeves was named Three Rivers League Coach of the Year.

On the girls side, Maiyah Kashi and Haley Barnachea won the consolation bracket at the Three Rivers League meet.

Golf

The Tigard boys golf team finished fifth in the state tournament after winning the Three Rivers League and Mt. Hood League Regionals. Senior Jennings Oelke finished second in the state tournament and earned his third straight all-state honors when he was named to the All-State First Team. Oelke was also named Three Rivers League Player of the Year.

Luke Barney earned a Second Team All-Three Rivers League honor for this play this season, while Jake Barney earned an honorable mention for the all-league teams.

In the regional title win, Quinton Bailey shot 1-under to tie for medalist honors.

Boys Volleyball

The boys volleyball team was one of the newest teams at Tigard, kicking off its inaugural season this spring. The early parts of the season were spent trying to get the team up to speed on the ins and outs of the game itself. Of the 14 boys on the team, just two had any sort of competitive volleyball experience.

The team started to gel after a rough first few outings. The Tigers dropped five of their first six matches. They bounced back, however, to win five of their next six matches. Eventually, Tigard finished the season 7-8 overall.
