Why are you running for city councilor, and what do you bring to the table that your opponents do not?

I’m running for Tigard City Council because I’m passionate about serving this community and ensuring that Tigard continues to be a welcoming, safe, and vibrant place for all of us. After spending over a decade in the U.S. Air Force, my family and I chose Tigard as our home because it’s a community where neighbors care for one another. Now, I want to do my part to ensure that every family feels the same sense of belonging and support that we have found here.

What sets me apart from my opponents is the unique blend of experience and education I bring to the table. My background in the military has taught me to lead in challenging, high-pressure situations with empathy, decisiveness, and a focus on getting things done. I’ve also worked as a Family Medicine Physician and OHSU faculty member in the Department of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology, where I have honed my skills in problem-solving, data-driven decision-making, and collaborative leadership.

My track record of leadership, coupled with my dedication to community service, will ensure that I bring integrity, transparency, equity, and excellence to Tigard’s City Council.  It equips me to tackle our city’s challenges thoughtfully and with the best interests of all residents in mind.

What is your #1 priority, and what are you proposing we do about it?

My top priority is ensuring that Tigard is a safe and secure community for all its residents. Safety is the foundation of everything we want to achieve, whether it’s supporting local businesses, fostering community engagement, or creating opportunities for our youth. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home, on their street, and in public spaces across our city.

To achieve this, I’m proposing a comprehensive approach that focuses both on prevention and response. I want to strengthen community policing efforts by fostering trust and building stronger relationships between our police officers and the neighborhoods they serve. This means increasing visibility, supporting transparency, and ensuring that our officers are equipped with training in de-escalation and mental health crisis intervention. I also want to expand mental health co-response units to address non-violent situations, ensuring that people get the right kind of help when they need it most. This goes hand-in-hand with taking meaningful steps to help our houseless population, moving beyond short-term fixes to create long-term solutions that address the root causes of homelessness in Tigard.

But it’s not just about responding to crises—prevention is key, especially when it comes to our youth. By investing in after-school programs, mentorship opportunities, and partnerships with local schools and community organizations, we can provide our young people with safe, supportive spaces and the tools they need for long-term success.

Through these measures, we can build a safer, more resilient Tigard for everyone.
