As the leaves turn and the rain returns, November reminds us to slow down, take a breath, and reflect. This season gives us a chance to appreciate where we’ve been, the people in our lives who make a difference, and to look ahead with hope.
What makes Tigard so special is more than our colorful trees and beautiful trails. It is the people who make this community strong, who care for their neighbors and keep us connected in both good times and challenging ones. Every day, I’m reminded that the heart of Tigard beats through its residents: the students, families, business owners, volunteers, and city staff who give their time, energy, and creativity to make this place better for all.
Since taking office, I’ve seen that Tigard spirit everywhere:
- Talking with students at Twality Middle School, where curiosity and civic pride are alive and well.
- Celebrating Diwali at our local Hindu temple, surrounded by light, joy, and community.
- Attending Tigard Chamber of Commerce networking events, where local entrepreneurs and community leaders come together to share ideas and support one another.
- Judging the Howl ’o’ Ween canine costume contest—so much creativity from our dog parents!
- Visiting the Tigard Senior Center, where the lunchroom buzzed with laughter and the exercise class was packed.
Each of these moments shows how alive and welcoming Tigard is.
The past few weeks have brought change, but what remains constant is our dedication to the people who live, work, and play in Tigard. The work goes on, and people keep showing up. City staff, community partners, and volunteers continue to do what they always do- serve, support, and strengthen our community. Their dedication makes Tigard a place we can all be proud to call home.
I also know this season can be tough for many. Rising costs and uncertainty affect families and small businesses alike. That’s why this is a good time to: check in on neighbors, support local shops and restaurants, and pitch in with food and toy drives that help those in need.
This is also a season for gratitude – for residents who stay engaged and care deeply about their city; for city employees who keep Tigard running no matter what the weather brings; and for local businesses and community groups who invest in our shared success.
As we look ahead, my focus remains on listening, leading with transparency, and keeping Tigard safe, welcoming, and thriving for everyone. Together, we’ll continue to build a community rooted in respect, collaboration, and compassion.
From my family to yours, I wish you a season filled with warmth, good company, and kindness.
