Postal Connection offers service & variety you won’t find at the post office
Shawn Petri spent a long, fruitful career in the insurance business. But since moving to Oregon in 1996, he always dreamed of owning his own small shipping and retail business.
Finally, in 2019, he made that dream come true when he purchased Postal Connection, a longtime Tigard business that offers shipping from all the major couriers, packing and packaging, copying and use of a fax machine. Petri’s shop even offers a selection of useful gifts and other retail items you might need.
“We have so many services under one roof, it’s basically like a one-stop shop for all the services you need for you or your business,” he said. “It makes it very convenient for people who need multiple things to be done.”
Petri grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and ran a small gift shop with his brother before moving north to Oregon. And with his experience in insurance, he knew sales inside and out. So, when the opportunity to purchase Postal Connection came up, he jumped at the chance.
“It goes all the way back to the late ‘80s when the concept started,” Petri said. “I was thinking that if I ever wanted to own a retail business it would be something like this.”
He says his store is about options. That means Postal Connection works with all the couriers, including US Postal Service, UPS, FedEx, DHL and more. And when people come in, they often are looking for advice or direction on how to ship. To answer, the shop offers many options when it comes to packaging and shipping.
“Our Tigard store is unique because probably 70 to 80 percent of our customers are seniors,” Petri added. “It’s convenient, people don’t have to wait in line for hours, especially this time of year.”
This holiday season, Postal Connection is considering expanding its hours to Sundays, but is otherwise keeping its normal schedule, open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday through Friday and 10-6 on Saturdays. There are also no extra holiday shipping fees – unless you decide to wait until the last minute and are forced pay for overnight delivery.
“From the moment you walk into the store, it’s clean, everything is in order, the staff is friendly and welcoming, things that have nothing to do with the final sale, even nice music,” Petri said, “It’s so the customer feels welcomed – that’s the whole experience we try to achieve every day.”
