1937 – 2021

Anne Brady Arden, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 20, 2021, in Tualatin, OR. Born Anne Kathryn Brady in 1937 to Frank Brady and Anne Chinnery Brady, she was one of five children raised in Yonkers, NY. She attended Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, and later La Roche College in Pennsylvania. She spent more than 15 years as a journalist for newspapers in Pennsylvania and later Florida, and despite her retirement in Oregon, couldn’t resist continuing to write everything from press releases to ad copy and obituaries for local businesses and papers.

Although writing kept her busy, her passion was genealogy, both her own and others. Anne spent years researching her own Irish heritage, going back to the immigration of her ancestors in the 1840s. She visited rediscovered relatives there in Ireland many times, and often spoke of it. Anne frequently researched histories for other friends and family as well, and it is thanks to her that her descendants know as much as they do about their roots.

No formal memorial service is planned, but there is a memorial website available via Autumn Funerals (autumncares.com/tribute/details/19530/Anne-Arden/obituary.html) where friends and family can share memories of Anne and celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Anne’s honor to the nonprofit Room to Read (www.roomtoread.org), as she was a great proponent of the written word, and we feel that enabling girls’ education would have pleased her.

She is survived by her brothers, Frank and Gerard Brady, as well as her daughter Marybeth O’Halloran, her granddaughter Johannah O’Halloran,
her niece Kris Drago Amels, and her cousin Helen Reddick.
