It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our longtime reporter and dear friend, Barbara Sherman, who left us after a brief illness.

Barbara was one of the very first reporters to join Tigard Life when we launched nine years ago, and her steady presence, sharp reporting, and unwavering commitment have been central to who we are today. Before that, she spent decades as a respected journalist at the Valley Times (formerly known as the Tigard Tualatin Times) and the King City Regal Courier, earning her a well-deserved reputation as one of the most knowledgeable and trusted voices covering our communities.

Beyond her bylines, Barbara was deeply involved in the life of the area she loved. She was an active member of the King City Lions Club, served in multiple roles—including newsletter editor—for her Summerfield HOA, and enjoyed time with her Bunco group. Her energy and generosity touched so many lives.

To me personally, Barbara was more than a colleague; she was a cherished friend. Our conversations often turned to our shared passions for journalism and our dogs, and her wisdom, humor, and kindness meant the world. It’s no exaggeration to say that Tigard Life—and our sister publication Tualatin Life—might not have endured and thrived as we have without her dedication and talent.

We will publish a fuller remembrance of Barbara, along with details about a public memorial planned for March at the Summerfield Clubhouse, in our March issue (details were not yet final at press time). Her son is preparing a more extensive obituary, which we look forward to sharing then.

In the meantime, we invite our readers to join us in remembering and celebrating Barbara’s remarkable life and the many ways she enriched Tigard, King City, and all who knew her. Feel free to reach out to me directly with any comments or questions.

She will be greatly missed.
