Tigard American Legion Post 158 invites everyone to a couple of fun activities in October.
For families with children, on Saturday, Oct. 19, from noon to 2 p.m., there will be refreshments including hamburgers and hot dogs, plus horseshoes and hopefully balloon dart games. This is an opportunity to stop by, enjoy a bite to eat and have some fun.
On Saturday, Oct. 26, there is a Halloween party with live music featuring the Boneheads, a band that plays great music from the 1960s forward. The post will offer a fun time, and participants can come in costume or not, and partake of the food and enjoy live music.
This is a reminder that Congress recently passed the Legion Act that allows any service member who has served from Dec. 7, 1941, forward to join the Legion. Legion members are eligible to receive many benefits and have state and national Legion officers advocate for them to Congress to protect pensions, educational benefits, housing and home loans, to name a few.
For members and prospective members, there is food available every day plus members who love to share their stories and listen to guests’ stories. Revenue generated at the Post goes to support veteran programs in the area.
The Post is gearing up to acknowledge Korean and World War II veterans, host a Veterans Day hobo stew and Thanksgiving dinner, and assemble Christmas food boxes to distribute.
Tigard American Legion Post 158 welcomes any and all to come to activities at the Post and meet other veterans and their families, and see what the Legion is doing to support this community.
The Tigard Post is located at 8635 S.W. Scoffins St., Tigard, and the phone number is 503-624-2332.
