Ultra Botanicals is not your typical CBD dispensary; it resembles an upscale salon, which is exactly the concept that owner Rebecca Goodhouse was striving for.

“Our store is geared towards helping people find an alternative to managing pain and other ailments,” Rebecca said. “We don’t think of ourselves as another CBD manufacturer or retail shop. Our goal is to educate our customers and help them make a choice that best suits them and their budget. I also designed the shop to be more boutique-style versus dispensary or smoke/vape shop.”

CBD stands for cannabidiol, which is the second-most-prevalent ingredient of the active components in cannabis or marijuana, according to a Harvard Medical School website. While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a “cousin” of the marijuana plant. While CBD is one of the hundreds of components in marijuana, it does not by itself cause a “high.”

Rebecca said she got involved with CBD products in the wholesale end of the business four years ago, noting that “the majority of the products I manufacture in my Wilsonville plant.” She sells products under the Ultra label as well as other labels, explaining that “manufacturing for private labels, or co-packing for other companies, is the bread-and-butter of my CBD business.”

CBD products come in a variety of applications, including lotions, salves and roll-ons, plus ingestibles like gummies. “It’s all about the customer’s preference and budget,” Rebecca said.

Two years ago, Rebecca, who was raised in Tigard, started selling CBD projects at the Tigard Area Farmers Market, noting, “I wanted to see how Tigard people would respond, and everybody loved the products, so I started marketing them.”

Rebecca is proud of the fact that “we are a woman-owned and -operated business,” and she added, “This industry is mostly male-dominated, and we have enjoyed having a more feminine take on the cannabis industry to our customers.”

In addition to her manufacturing and retail businesses, Rebecca also owns the Beach Hut Deli in downtown Tigard and said, “All three places have female managers, and 60 to 70 percent of all the employees are female.”

Her Ultra Botanicals staff is trained to deal with customers who come in and know exactly what they want as well as those who might feel uncomfortable entering and asking for a product to help what might be an embarrassing condition.

“Our customer base runs the gamut from old to young and includes everything in between,” Rebecca said.

Ultra Botanicals also carries Tigard-made products, including CBD cookies from Love Hope Cookies plus candles and plants from Home Nest.

“Additionally, we have a space set aside to feature local artists and their medium at no cost to them,” Rebecca said. “Last month we featured a wood-bender and his beautiful wooden bowls.”

Ultra Botanicals is located at 11652 S.W. Pacific Hwy, just north of Tigard Bowl; the phone number is 503-747-2064; the business is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
