Final days feature major price reductions as proceeds continue to help save lives

The American Cancer Society (ACS) announced this week, that due to financial challenges created by the pandemic, it is closing its Discovery Shop resale store located at 11545 S.W. Durham Rd., Suite B-3, in Tigard. Owned and operated by ACS, the Discovery Shop™, a long-standing icon in the community, is planning to remain open for business offering incredible discounts on gently used goods, through May 22, 2021. Like many organizations, the Society experienced significant challenges due to COVID-19, including reductions in financial and in-kind donations. While a difficult decision, closing the shop will allow ACS to direct a greater percentage of funds to its lifesaving mission, including nearly $12M currently funding cancer researchers at Oregon State University and Oregon Health & Science University.

While the Discovery Shop location will soon be permanently closed, ACS will continue to provide services in the local community, including local support and information for people facing cancer 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through our toll-free Helpline, 1-800-227-2345 and website, cancer.org

Though 2021 activities and programs will look different than in years past, there are still numerous ways to get involved in the lifesaving mission locally. ACS staff and volunteers, currently home-based, will continue to host community engagement opportunities across Oregon and S.W. Washington. This includes events such as Relay For Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, as well as reactivating access to care programs for patients and expanding legislative work through the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network.
