The second show of the season will be Grease, playing April 10 – May 18 at the New Stage. Grease picks up the story of head “greaser” Danny and girl-next-door Sandy where their summer lovin’ left off: the start of a new school year. Amongst “Burger Palace Boys,” “Pink Ladies,” fast cars, and teen angst, this musical evokes the looks and sounds of the 1950s. Grease has earned its place among the world’s most popular musicals, and is filled with favorite songs and dance numbers such as “Greased Lightnin’,” “We Go Together,” “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” and “You’re the One That I Want.”
The first summer production is Waitress playing June 25 – July 20 at the Deb Fennell Auditorium. With music and lyrics by Tony Award-nominee, Sara Bareilles, this pop musical tells the story of Jenna, a waitress and expert pie maker, stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. When a baking contest in a nearby county offers her a chance at escape, Jenna fights to reclaim a long-forgotten part of herself. Through the support of her fellow waitresses and an unexpected romance, Jenna begins to find the courage to take a long-abandoned dream off the shelf. Waitress celebrates the power of friendship, dreams, motherhood, the family we choose, and the beauty of a well-baked pie.
The second summer production presented at the Deb Fennell Auditorium is Anything Goes playing July 31-August 17. With music and lyrics by Cole Porter, this voyage of the S.S. American between New York and England is filled with a madcap group of passengers, witty repartee, exceptional songs, and thrilling tap dancing. The 2022 revision includes familiar classics from the Great American Songbook such as “Anything Goes,” “You’re the Top,” and “I Get a Kick Out of You.” This musical will have you rooting for true love to win out in the end. It’s delightful, delicious, and de-lovely.
In the fall Broadway Rose is pleased to present a new love story, Triangle. This original musical will play September 18 – October 12 at the New Stage. Triangle is set against the backdrop of the infamous Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in New York and its modern-day inhabitants. The musical follows two romances: a Jewish immigrant seamstress and her Italian foreman, and a graduate student and his relationship with a handsome free-spirited stranger. The show parallels their stories as they are set in the same location, a century apart. Filled with fresh melodies and a poignant narrative, the couples discover what it means to risk everything for love.
The season concludes with a new holiday revue by Dan Murphy and Rick Lewis, Christmas in Door County, playing November 26 – December 21 at the New Stage. Heartwarming, uplifting, and full of holiday cheer, this new musical features familiar festive songs and a story about finding the meaning of Christmas. After a winter vacation at the Borealis Bed & Breakfast on Washington Island, Wisconsin, the ferry breaks down and guests are unable to return to the mainland. Staying with the B&B staff, everyone comes together on Christmas Eve to make the best of the situation in hopes of some yuletide cheer.
