After losing a job and their apartment during the cold winter months this past year, this local family, with three young children and a baby on the way, found themselves living in their car and then in a hotel.

“When we lost our housing, we didn’t know what to do,” the mother said. “We stayed in the car and then got help from a church with a hotel. When we finally got here, it changed everything.”
Their family found a safe and supportive place to land at Good Neighbor Center (GNC). During their stay, they welcomed their new baby, the father secured steady employment, and by June 2025, they had successfully moved into stable housing.
This story is one of many examples of how GNC helps families facing housing instability move from crisis to stability with compassion, supportive services, and community support.
“The housing crisis can feel so overwhelming, it’s hard to know where and how to help make a difference,” said Jodi Collins, Development Manager at Good Neighbor Center. “Here at our family shelter, there are so many meaningful ways to support families, including volunteering, providing meals, and donating items from our top needs list.”
