Why are you running for city councilor, and what do you bring to the table that your opponents do not?

Hello, I’m Jessica Braverman, and I’m running for city council because I believe deeply in democracy, where we, as residents, have an interactive representative government that truly reflects the wishes and needs of our community. Voters deserve a City Council that mirrors the wishes of its constituents. I live in Edgewater on the Tualatin, and my parents live in the Highlands, so I am deeply vested in this community. I bring a unique and fresh blend of generational experiences and skills to city council.

With a background in law, business, and education, and serving leadership roles as diverse as a child advocate, family lawyer, labor negotiator and community college instructor, I bring a wealth of problem-solving abilities and a commitment to fairness and transparency. My experiences as a mediator and negotiator have honed my abilities to listen without bias, understand differing viewpoints, and forge creative solutions that work for everyone. Additionally, my current and past leadership roles in government and community service enable me to tackle head-on the ever-changing challenges and opportunities within local governance.

What truly distinguishes me is my dedication to open dialogue and a proactive approach to community issues. I am committed to ensuring that every voice is heard and that our decision-making processes are transparent and accountable. I believe in working tirelessly for the betterment of King City, and I’m prepared to apply my skills and experience to ensure that our community thrives. There is no place like home in King City!

What is your #1 priority, and what are you proposing we do about it?

My number one priority is to enhance community engagement and ensure that every resident of King City has a voice in our local government. I plan to challenge aspects of the City Charter and to allow residents more time to speak and voice their concerns, challenges and ideas at city council meetings and to expand volunteer opportunities so we have more participation at the King City level. I also want to explore including our youth more at city council, as our children are the future.

The goal is to create multiple avenues for residents to share their concerns, ideas, and feedback. I believe that properly guided conversations and active listening will lead to more innovative and effective solutions to our community’s challenges. By fostering an environment where dialogue is encouraged and valued, we can ensure that our policies and initiatives are truly reflective of and responsive to the needs of our residents.

Bringing more transparency in all city operations, ensuring information is accessible and that decision-making processes are clear will build trust and collaboration between the city council and the community. Please vote for a fresh voice and open ears at city council!
