Upon learning recently that an entire neighborhood in Mesquite, Nevada, was lit up in blue to show support for local law enforcement, we immediately wanted to do the same for the brave and dedicated men and women of our Tigard Police Department. The photos we saw in a recent news article, showing multiple streets all aglow in blue at night, were heartwarming. And a Mesquite police officer’s comments about how important the community’s backing was to the department really touched my heart.

How wonderful it would be if we Tigard residents could do the same as a sign of appreciation for our police department! Sadly, however, my request to install a blue light in the lamppost in front of my home was denied by my Summerfield HOA.

However, for those of you who are able, please consider coming together in an expression of gratitude for our local law enforcement with a simple blue light In front of your homes. The bulbs are available at hardware stores and also online. Our support means a lot to them, especially at this time when officers are facing difficult challenges as they do their very best to protect and serve our community each day. Let’s show how much we care. Let’s all “Back the Blue!”

Patricia & Greg Sutton, Summerfield residents
