Broadway Rose Theatre Company presents the Tony Award-winning musical Disney’s Newsies. Preview performance is on Thursday, July 15, with opening night on Friday, July 16, and performances continuing through August 16. Evening performances are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Matinees are at 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Audio description is available at the Saturday matinee on August 1. Performances are held at the Deb Fennell Auditorium located at 9000 SW Durham Road in Tigard.

Inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 and set in New York City, Disney’s Newsies tells the tale of Jack Kelly, the charismatic leader of the band of teenage “newsies.” When the publishing company raises their distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack and his band of misfits rally from across the city to strike against the bullies and fight for what’s right! Packed with unforgettable songs, and high-energy dance numbers, this musical seizes the day with courage, friendship, and the belief that ordinary voices can spark extraordinary change.

Based on the 1992 Disney film written by Bob Tzudiker and Noni White, the musical opened on Broadway in 2012 with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and book by Harvey Fierstein.

Broadway Rose is excited to welcome back director Lyn Cramer to lead this outstanding cast. Cramer is no stranger to bold, energetic, and outstanding musicals having previously directed many audience favorites for Broadway Rose including Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Cats, and Mamma Mia. “When I was asked to direct Newsies I said, ‘Let’s Go!’ and the search was on for incredible dancers,” recalled Cramer. “We were off to New York City where we found a treasure trove of gifted performers. We added them to the endless local talent here and the result—you’ll see and experience a cast of dancers, singers, and actors that will knock you out of your seat!”

Joining director Lyn Cramer is choreographer Amy Reynolds-Reed and music director Billy Thompson. Credit to Front Row Theatrical Rental for the impressive scenic design and set rental. Audiences will be treated to costume design by Debbie Bray, lighting design by Kristeen Willis, props design by Sam Manilla, fight choreography by Zero Feeney, and sound design by Brian Karl Moen. Completing the production team is Jessica Junor as production stage manager, Raef Wheaton as technical director, and Karen Hill as production manager.

The cast comprises Grant Goldman as Jack Kelly, Sophie MacKay as Katherine Plumber, Josie Seid as Medda Larkin, Xander Dean as Davey, Alec J.
