Why are you running for city councilor, and what do you bring to the table that your opponents do not?

As your City Councilor, I’ve worked hard for our Tigard Community since my election to Council in 2020.  I have championed fiscal responsibility and brought together diverse, community and business perspectives to collaboratively solve issues our community faced from pandemic relief for residents and businesses, to senior housing, to preserving and renewing our public safety investments, and modernizing our City Charter.

I will continue to work alongside each of you to keep Tigard moving forward on key priority issues important to our community. Priorities include:

  • Community Safety. Prioritize and modernize our Police and Public Works facilities and resources so they can perform their duties efficiently and effectively.
  • Increase Housing. Collaborate to develop diverse housing for all income levels and continue to partner with Washington County to reduce homelessness.
  • Thriving Local Economy. Develop a budget that strengthens and supports our businesses, grows our workforce, and invests in Tigard’s Climate Action Resiliency Plan.
  • Parks and Recreation. Support park maintenance and facility improvements to meet community needs and community recreational activities such as splash pad, inclusive playgrounds, pickleball, and kayak and paddle boarding on the Tualatin River.
  • Safe Streets, Mobility. Continue to fill in sidewalk gaps, create additional “Safe Routes to School” programs, and mobility options, such as bike lanes.

What is your #1 priority, and what are you proposing we do about it?

Tigard has many opportunities to thrive and it will take more than just one priority to ensure our continued success. I will balance perspectives and build consensus on key priorities such as addressing housing for all income levels while enhancing safety and reducing roadway congestion including the jurisdictional transfer of Hall Boulevard in a state of good repair; modernizing our city’s software and infrastructure to ensure our police and public works employees have the resources and the facilities they need to be effective and efficient; and continuing to provide daily essential services that directly affect our lives – drinking water, streets and sidewalks, parks and trails, and public safety.

Proudly endorsed by respected leaders and trusted organizations (partial list): David C. Tigard; John Cook, Former Tigard Mayor; Yi-Kang Hu, Tigard City Council President; Maureen Wolf, Tigard City Councilor; Jake Schlack, Tigard City Councilor; Shriya Myneni, Tigard City Youth Councilor; Home Building Association of Greater Portland; Oregon League of Conservation Voters; Tualatin Valley Firefighters Union IAFF Local 1660; Tigard Chamber of Commerce; Tigard Police Officers’ Association.
