Tigard athletics produced some standout seasons across all sports in the spring season.
As for team results, the softball team had the strongest showing. The Tigers entered the playoffs as the No. 19 seed, but ripped off three straight road wins to reach the state semifinals. Unfortunately for Tigard, a trip to the semifinals meant a trip to Sheldon High School, the defending state champs.
Tigard dropped the semifinal matchup, and Sheldon went on to win its second straight state title.
Throughout the spring, Tigard athletes impressed out on the field regardless of sport, as many were voted on for their respective all-league teams by opposing coaches.
Here’s a look at the Tigard spring athletes that earned all-league honors:
Softball:
The Tigard softball team’s playoff run was led partially by senior Ella Dardis, who was voted as an infielder on the second team for all-state honors. She was also voted to the Three Rivers League first team as an infielder. Dardis is off to play for Oregon State in college.
Also earning first-team all-league honors was sophomore McKenna Clark, who was voted catcher for the league’s first team. Junior Claire Masters was voted to the Three Rivers League’s first team as an infielder, as well.
Junior Avery Rust picked up honors all over the field. She was voted to the Three Rivers League’s second team at pitcher and infielder. She was also an honorable mention for all-league as a utility player.
Senior Hailey White was also honored for Tigard, as she was named to the all-league second team as an outfielder.

Baseball:
The Tigard baseball team went on a late-season run to earn a playoff bid. The Tigers won eight of their final 10 regular season games.
Ten Tigers were honored on all-league teams for their play this season, led by junior Alex Pearson, who was named to the second-team all-state team at first base and the first-team all-Three Rivers League at the same position. Pearson is already committed to play for University of Washington in college.
Sophomore Trenton Hertzog picked up all-league first-team honors as both an infielder and a pitcher.
Senior Zach Jaeger also earned double honors, being voted to the Three Rivers League second team as both an infielder and a pitcher. Jackson Barnachea, a senior, earned second-team honors in the infield, and Oliver Jones was named to the second team as an outfielder.
Junior Miles Ott also was voted to the all-league second team for his season at designated hitter. Jones was also named an honorable mention as an outfielder.
Luke Fulkerson, senior, was another honoree for the Tigers, as he was named an honorable mention for all league as a pitcher. Senior Jase Randall was named an honorable mention at catcher, as was fellow senior Gavyn Simmons. Senior Spencer Gustafson was named an honorable mention as an outfielder.

Girls Tennis:

Senior Sydney Board finished out her high school career with her third straight Three Rivers League first-team selection. Board was the team’s top singles player and went 16-4 throughout her senior season.
Board was the lone Tigard tennis player from both the boys and girls teams to reach the state tournament this year. She won two matches to the reach the semifinals.
Boys Golf:
The boy’s golf team finished second at regionals to qualify for the state tournament.
The top finisher for Tigard this year was junior Jennings Oelke, who was named to the Three Rivers League first team. In the state tournament, Oelke finished 10th individually out of more than 90 competitors. He also brought home a first-place finish in the regional tournament.
Luke Barney earned a Three Rivers League second team honor this season as a freshman. He also scored a seventh-place finish in the regional tournament.
Sophomore Quinton Bailey and senior Parker Vandergriff were both named honorable mentions for the Three Rivers League this season.
Girls Lacrosse:
The Tigard girls lacrosse team had two players earn all-league honors for their work this season. First up was junior Malia Fehr, who was named to the all-Metro League’s second team on defense. Fehr led the Tigers in forcer turnovers this season, as the only member of the team in double digits for the season. She was also one of the team leaders in ground balls.
The other honoree from Tigard was sophomore Addison Ley, who was named to the second team for the all-Metro League as a midfielder. Ley provided a bulk of Tigard’s scoring offense this season, leading the team with 35 goals and 37 points. No one else on the team had more than 15 goals and only one player, Madison Graham, reached double digit points.
Ley led the team in ground balls this season, as well as draw controls.
Boys lacrosse:
Over on the boys side of things in lacrosse, junior Mason Trusell was named to the second team as an attacker for the All-Northwest Conference team.
Joining him on the second team was senior Aidan Jirles, who was named to the team in the midfield, and freshman Liam Freeborn, who was named as a defender on the second team.
The future of the Tigard team is looking bright. Five more Tigers were named honorable mention to the all-conference team, and none of them were seniors.
Those who earned the honorable mention were: sophomore Grant Adamson as an attacker, junior Cole Freeborn as a midfielder, freshman Turner Beix in the faceoff, junior Alex Berg on defense, and junior Mitchell Bennett also on defense.
Track and Field
Track and field doesn’t have all-league teams, but plenty of Tigard athletes stood out as top competitors in Three Rivers League this season.
In the Three Rivers League meet, three Tigers won league titles: sophomore Marissa Johnson in both the shot put and discus, senior Jason Layton in the shot put, and freshman Paul Hretcanu in the 800 meters.
Johnson finished out her sophomore track and field season by winning the state title in both the shot put and the discus. It was her second straight state title in shot put. She finished second in the state in discus as a freshman.
Hretcanu’s league title was his second as a freshman. He also finished first at the Three Rivers League meet in the 5,000 meters in the fall cross country season.
Senior Sabine Kim finished second in the state meet in the 3,000 meter, but had a strong finish to the season. She came into her senior year as the school record holder in the event, and broke her own school record early in the season. She then broke that record three more times this season, capping off her senior season by setting a new school record in the event in the state championship meet.
