The Tigard Friends Winter Coat Giveaway was a success in September and will be repeated in October to serve others in need in Tigard. The event served over 43 individuals/family groups, sending out warm coats, sweaters and sweatshirts to about 200 people. Also available were warm winter hats, gloves and scarves.
We have found we are especially in need of MEN’S warm coats, sweatshirts and sweaters, and those for school age children. We can always use more for women, and hats, gloves and scarves for all. We learned that Just Compassion customers are in need of hiking boots, backpacks (adult ones) and warm sleeping bags. Those can be dropped off at the clothing barrel at the church or you can contact Just Compassion at (503) 624-4666.
The donation barrel continues to be available for drop-offs at the front door of the church, 15800 SW Hall Boulevard, Tigard, under the portico. It is unloaded daily. All washable items will be laundered before the event.
This was a first-time event for the church to sponsor. It is the same group who works each month to host the Tigard Friends Foodshare Pantry, on the 3rd Saturday of each month, 11 a.m – 1 p.m., currently a drive-thru pickup. Anyone needing help with food is invited to show up.
The date for the NEXT Tigard Friends Winter Coat giveaway will be SATURDAY, OCT. 31, from 9 a.m. to noon. Adults only inside, entry is in order of arrival. Anyone needing warm winter clothing, please come! If you know of someone in need, please give them the information. The event is held in the Fellowship Hall at Tigard Friends Church at 15800 SW Hall Blvd., Tigard.
