Every year, the Tigard Chamber of Commerce provides an opportunity for adults in our community to grow their capacity through the Leadership Tigard program.

As a 9 month program, participants are provided interactive learning about their local community through engagement with organizations, city government, education districts and businesses. Past participants include city council members, community leaders, peers and neighbors.

This year, when COVID-19 began to impact how we gather and grow, Leadership Tigard 2020 class had a decision to make.

As a program with in-person learning we were impacted by the new physical distancing guidelines, and needed to decide how to continue our educational year; specifically how to complete our already in process community service project.

Many of our class members decided we would continue to engage in an online platform, and maintain our work on our community service project.

The Leadership Tigard class of 2020 stands on the grounds of the now complete play structure for the Family Promise of Tualatin Valley.

Leadership Tigard class of 2020 is thrilled to share that through a collaborative effort and utilizing our community connections, we were able to beautify and donate a play structure to Family Promise of Tualatin Valley.

FPTV is a non-profit organization that serves homeless children and their families. Find out more about their mission and offerings at their website

Experiencing homelessness is hard enough, and as a child the uncertainty that comes with housing instability can impact social and emotional growth. We are proud as a class to know, that when children arrive at FPTV uncertain of what to expect, they will be greeted with a space that is clearly made for them, and invites them to shake off their worries and have a little fun. We hope parents will feel the love for them and their children that this project was completed with.

We want to thank all those who donated their time, money and in-kind support for this project.
