Tigard Students invited to enter ‘If I Were Mayor’ Contest

Tigard Mayor Heidi Lueb invites students from 4th grade to High School to submit an entry in the 2023 If I Were Mayor student contest from the Oregon Mayors Association (OMA). Eligible students must live in Tigard whether they attend public, private, or home school programs.

Mayor Lueb will name one local winner in each category and award each a $50 Visa Gift Card at the April 25, 2023, City Council meeting. The winning entry from each category (below) will represent Tigard in the statewide competition, where the prize for 1st place is $500:

Elementary School (grade 4-5) – Poster Contest (Photo of poster can be PNG, JPEG, BMP, or PDF files)

Middle School (grade 6-8) – Essay Contest (Word, PDF, PowerPoint, or online essay format)

High School (grades 9-12) – Digital Media Presentations (Videos only, MP4 or online video format) *PowerPoint and Prezi are no longer accepted in the Video category, but okay for the Essay category.

Statewide winning students in each of the three categories will receive their prizes at the awards luncheon held during the OMA Summer Conference in Hood River at the Best Western Plus, August 10-12, 2023. Winners will be contacted in June for travel arrangements.

Statewide winners in second and third place will win $300 and $100, respectively, and will receive their prizes at local city presentations.
