Austin Johnson is running for a two-year position on the Tigard City Council “because I want to give back to the city that helped shape me and push it in an eco-friendly and sustainable direction,” he said.

He added, “That includes issues like solar power, electric-charging stations, public transportation, trees, bike lanes and more. I also believe in increasing Tigard’s diversity, culture and sense of community.”

Johnson was raised in Tigard from the ages of 3 to 15 and was a Cub/Boy Scout. He is a Navy veteran and the father of two.

He holds a General MBA and a BSBA in Marketing, and he has traveled all over the world, bringing unique experiences  with him, eventually moving back to Tigard six years ago. “We wanted our family to be raised in a friendly, safe and progressive city with access to larger cities, while keeping the ‘hometown’ feel,” he said. “Tigard was it.”

Professionally, Johnson has worked  in various Marketing roles over the past 12 years. He noted, “I’m good at analyzing data and reporting on it in meaningful and straightforward ways, then turning that information into strategic plans to improve the company, just like I would for Tigard. In the military, I excelled within rigid government structure and protocols, with the added benefit of operating a submarine.”

“In this role, I intend to use both skill sets to take community feedback and convert it into actionable items that make a happy and healthy Tigard.
