Find Your Fun in Tigard This Summer!

Winter has fun activities, but I feel like we all really come alive when the sun comes out! Our summer events are one of the many things that make Tigard such a special place to live and enjoy the great outdoors. This summer, as we continue to make Tigard a more inclusive, vibrant, and livable place, there will be lots of opportunities to gather with family, friends, and neighbors for music, movies, and more.

Music

Saturday, June 10, marks the unofficial beginning of the summer event season in Tigard. There will be plenty of dancing and singing as our youngest community members enjoy a performance from Micah and Me at the Summer Kickoff Party.

The music continues Saturday, July 8, when Eric Herman brings his outrageously fun musical performance to a special edition of Pop Up in the Park.

Community members will be dancing and singing on Wednesday, August 9, when Taken by the Sky, a Fleetwood Mac Tribute, takes the stage at Cook Family Park.

We’ll close the summer music with Dance Hall Days on August 16.

Movies

We’ll bring the free popcorn – you bring the blanket or lawn chair! On Friday, July 8, at Dirksen Park, you will be treated to a free showing of “Minions: Rise of Gru.” Come early to play games, visit vendor booths and win prizes. We’ll repeat the same fun, but with a different movie, “Back to the Future,” on Friday, August 11.

Tigard teens (grades 6 to 12) will have their own movie night in the Library’s backyard on August 2. Grab your free ticket now for a chance to pick the featured movie.

Community Events:

Festival of Balloons, July Fourth, Pop Up in the Park, and More

It’s worth the early morning wake-up call to watch the balloon launches with the sunrise! The festival is one of the most popular in the state and returns to Cook Family Park from June 23 to 25. You can spend the day shopping at the craft and vendor booths, eating great food and drinks from local food vendors, and enjoying thrilling carnival rides.

July 4th will once again be a busy day in Tigard. The Middle of Millen Drive Independence Day Parade is back. After the parade, community members will head to the Old-Fashioned Fourth of July celebration at Tigard High School.

If that’s not enough, throughout the summer, we’re bringing Pop Up in the Park to your neighborhood. There will be ready-to-play sports, games, and crafts, at your neighborhood park.

I can’t wait to see you at these community events this summer – or at one of our many great parks or on our beautiful trails! You can find even more summer events at www.tigard-or.gov/explore-tigard/city-calendar-events or Recreation Events and Activities | City of Tigard (tigard-or.gov). In the meantime, you can reach me at 971-435-0964 or heidil@tigard-or.gov, or connect with the entire City Council at CouncilMail@tigard-or.gov.

Happy Summer!
