The Tigard Farmers Market is in full swing! We are loving all the local produce that is in the market right now. For some in our community, buying fresh local produce can be hard to access. In our community, 1 in 7 neighbors are facing food insecurity. To help make local foods more accessible for everyone in our community, the Tigard Farmers Market has been matching Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits at the market for more than 7 years and this season is no different.
Our SNAP Matching Program incentivizes SNAP shoppers to spend their benefit dollars on fresh local produced foods available at the market. Not only are they doubling their benefits but are also supporting the local economy. For every dollar that a SNAP participant spends at the market, they will receive an equal match up to $15. They can use these dollars on fruits and vegetables, plant starts, meat, eggs, and more.
To participate in this program, SNAP participants should go to the Tigard Farmers Market information booth before you shop. Purchase SNAP with their Oregon Trail Card and they will receive their SNAP match, up to $15 a market day. We recommend spending the Matching Dollars first to buy fresh local produced food then using the SNAP tokens.
We would like to give a huge thank you to Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District for partnering with us on this program! Without their support, we would not be able to offer this program at the market.
The Tigard Farmers Market is open every Sunday from 9 AM to 1:30 PM in Downtown Tigard on Burnham Street at Main Street. The market runs until the end of October. The SNAP Matching program runs all season long and while funds last.
